How DPI / PPI is Calculated
DPI (Dots Per Inch) and PPI (Pixels Per Inch) describe how tightly pixels are packed when an image is printed. Higher DPI = smaller, sharper dots = better quality at a given size.
Formula: Print size (inches) = Pixel dimension ÷ DPI. For example, a 3000 px image at 300 DPI prints at exactly 10 inches (3000 ÷ 300 = 10).
To convert to centimetres: multiply inches by 2.54. So 10 inches = 25.4 cm.
Rule of thumb: 300 DPI is the professional standard for photos and documents. 150 DPI is acceptable for large-format prints viewed from a distance. 72 DPI is screen resolution and generally too low for print.

What DPI do I need for printing?
300 DPI is the standard for high-quality printing. For viewing at arm's length (documents, photos), 300 DPI gives sharp results. For posters viewed from a distance, 150 DPI is acceptable. For large banners, even 72 DPI can work.
How do I check my image resolution?

What is the minimum DPI for good print quality?
For standard documents and photos, 300 DPI is recommended. 150 DPI is the absolute minimum for acceptable quality. Below 150 DPI, prints will appear pixelated or blurry at normal viewing distance.
Can I increase the DPI of an image?
Increasing DPI without adding real pixels (upscaling) does not improve quality — it just stretches existing pixels. For best results, start with the highest resolution original. AI upscaling tools can help somewhat, but native high-resolution images always print better.
